Tempe boutique Here On The Corner announced in a November 16 Facebook post that it will close by the end of 2015.
“This is not a change of choice for us, but one of the reality that we live in,” the post reads. “While we are profoundly sad, we are not mad. Tempe is a great city and is seeing amazing growth right now.”
Owned and operated by Julie Kent since May 2011, Here On The Corner has earned fans and followers for its proximity to Arizona State University’s Tempe campus (it’s located just north of University Drive on College Avenue) and its products. Kent’s store specializes in Arizona-based brands, including State Forty-Eight, as well as philanthropic fashion goods from such companies as Toms.

The Facebook post explains that the building’s owner has sold the property, and the sale “will lead the way to new development.” It goes on, “With that growth comes the change that is necessary to accommodate it. We are evaluating future opportunities, but at this time the plan is to close in December.”
With that date in mind, shoppers are encouraged to use any gift cards by November 28.
While the store will close, its mural will be preserved. Ali Dodt’s Resolana mural will be relocated to Clark Park’s community garden. Details on the move weren’t immediately available, but the post notes, “We will keep you posted on its installation.”
