Did you ever want to bring your laptop to a concert and blog about it? How about sitting next to bona fide musicians while they chronicle the evening’s performance like a sportscaster?
Golly gee, kill us now.
Thus is the challenge with opera. Though the artform speaks for itself, mention to a buddy that you would like he/she to accompany you to the opera and we guarantee that you’ll be dragging him/her kicking and screaming.
As a result, opera folks are met with impossible-to-overcome challenges to attract new fans. An idea (alluded to at the beginning of this piece) that left us scratching our heads, but could very well be a hit, occurs today during the “An E-volution of Experience – From Andriessen 2 Zappa: Ecstasy of Influence” program. The ASU Symphonic Band, as well as various chamber groups and a structured improvisation ensemble, will perform in a good, ol’-fashioned concert setting – Gammage Auditorium – but with interactive opportunities such as laptop and smart-phone blogging.
