“I don’t act that much,” says playwright/journalist/professor/activist James Garcia, founder and artistic director of New Carpa Theater Company, “probably because I just don’t have time.” But Garcia’s made time to create and appear in New Carpa’s one-man show, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Culture Wars* (*But Were Afraid to Ask), at Herberger Lunch Time Theater through Thursday, August 15.
“It’s been floating around in my head for a long time, because of what’s happening in Arizona regarding civil rights issues and human rights issues and immigration and things that Arizona is kind of notorious for,” Garcia says of the compilation of monologues and vignettes, which presents assorted real-life characters traveling through both geographical and psychological space. “It’s not a comedy,” he says, “but it flows back and forth into satire because some of what we deal with is so absurd.”
Curtain time Wednesday, August 7, is 12:10 p.m. at the Herberger’s Kax Stage, 222 East Monroe Street. Admission is $6. For reservations, lunch orders, and more, visit www.herbergertheater.org/lunch_time_theater or call 602-252-8497.
Tuesdays-Thursdays, 12:10 p.m. Starts: Aug. 6. Continues through Aug. 15, 2013
