This week, the fight continues between women and their uterus-less congressmen, and if the creatives behind Government Free VJJ have anything to say about abortion and birth control legislation, it’s that congressmen everywhere could use a few uteri of their own.
Government Free VJJ is encouraging women (and supportive men) to knit or crotchet colorful replicas of their reproductive organs, including the uterus, cervix, and vulva, and mail them off to their representatives with a small note:
Dear Men in Congress: If we knit you a uterus, will you stay out of ours?
The project website includes knitting patterns ( the Womb by MK_Carrol, the Snatchel by Zabet Stewart, a Felt Cervix by Sonya Philip, and a Knitted Vulva by Jennifer Hutchinson) and crotchet patterns (the Happy Uterus by Joy Koestner and the Crocheted Uterus by Tink Edwards).
When news happens, Phoenix New Times is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
All can be mailed directly to your congressman or mailed to the project coordinators, who are organizing hand-deliveries to congressional offices in Washington.
