There are plenty of words to describe Phoenix. Dusty. Sunlit. Sprawling. Somehow, “green” doesn’t make the list. Artists Lindsay Palmer and Rebekeh Brems might disagree. Their joint exhibit “The G R E E N B E L T: a photographic collaboration” features large-scale images of natural forests, deforested areas, and what Palmer calls the “urban jungle” – a greenbelt near her home.
“When we began the project, it was spring, so there was plenty of greenery here to photograph,” says Palmer. “Being residents of Phoenix, we find ourselves drawn to anything green.” But a narrow strip of sod as the pinnacle of Phoenix landscape? Well, okay, that we can buy.
