Usually motocross is all about individuals ripping through dirt and vying for hard-fought glory. On Saturday, August 18, Arizona’s motocross community comes together to commemorate the passing of one of their own.

Speedworld Motocross Park has hosted its annual Beat the Heat summer motocross series since May, where once a month, racers of all skill levels have attempted to conquer the course. This final race pays tribute to the late Surprise, Arizona, racer Dylan Perkins. It will have been a year ago this Saturday that the 16-year-old died from injuries sustained in crash after a jump in the Monster Energy Powder Mountain Motocross race in northern Utah. The close-knit extreme sporting community gathers in the west valley to ride on and compete in Perkins’ honor at Speedworld, 19421 West Jomax Road in Wittmann. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m.

Sat., Aug. 18, 8 p.m., 2012
