There’s nothing we love more than the idea of big things coming in small packages. We also love a good comeback tale. Combine both and you have The Mighty Uke: The Amazing Comeback of a Musical Underdog, a documentary by Tony Coleman and Margaret Meagher.
The film goes back to the genesis of the mighty mite of stringed instruments in 1880s Hawaii and its boom in early 20th century American households. The ukulele’s latest upsurge (just search YouTube) is due to the ease of use and its fun, plurky notes adaptable to any genre.
. A ukulele jam is planned immediately after the film; Hawaiian-born uke enthusiast and actress Heidi Swedberg will also be on hand to pluck joyful tunes on the tiny strings.
