Over the last decade downtown Phoenix has experienced a rather profound renaissance. Thanks to the light rail, the burgeoning Roosevelt Row district, big investments from ASU, and loads of outstanding clubs and restaurants, the ‘hood has become a destination again. But on the first Saturday of every month, uptown is the place to get down. On September 7, Apollo’s Lounge at 5749 North 7th Street will host Tongue Tied, one of Phoenix’s hippest dance parties.

DJs Roya and Funkfinger will square off during their Old School/New School Party duel that will no doubt coalesce into a bonafide boogie down pastiche. But even if you’re a wallflower you can groove vicariously through the drag queens and interpretive dance-crews who will be cutting more rugs than a toupee factory. Throw tons of free giveaways from Zia Records into the mix, and Tongue Tied leaves other Valley dance parties speechless. There’s a $5 cover for the 21-and-over event after 9:30 p.m. Visit www.facebook.com/tonguetiedphoenix or call 602-277-9373 for details.
