Jimi Hendrix may have abandoned his mortal coil over 40 years ago, but his ghost still hovers over practically anyone gripping an electric guitar.
To call the man a pioneer of the instrument is like calling Bill Shakespeare a “pretty good storyteller.” Four decades after his untimely demise due to nasty combo of red wine, sleeping pills, and vomit, earnest axe-handlers are still toiling away at figuring out Hendrix’s combination of blues, rock ‘n’ roll, soul, and distortion.
Case in point: The Experience Hendrix Tour, which features some of the most recognizable names in blues and rock tackling music associated with the man’s legacy, including Steve Vai, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph, and Billy Cox.
The guitar revue hits the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street, on Monday, May 23. The show promises to be a six-string symphony exploring the music and mind of the man who defined the very concept of rock ‘n’ roll guitar work.
