Well, ain’t this a fine howdy-do?

While ASU football, the mack daddy of Sun Devils athletics, has been getting its rump kicked up and down the Pacific Coast, the former 90-pound pipsqueak named ASU men’s basketball has been pondering a potential NCAA-tourney breakthrough year. And the path to March Madness just got easier, what with the hubbub in Tucson surrounding Lute Olson’s departure and the subsequent de-commits by all of UofA’s 2009 Top 100 recruits. No such turmoil in Tempe – so far. In fact, men’s head coach Herb Sendek was able to hang on to his blue-chippers, preseason first-team All-American James Harden and veteran big man Jeff Pendergraph.

See Herb, James, and Jeff in action for the first time since March when they open the season with a game against Mississippi Valley State as part of the ASU Basketball Double-Header. The first half of the slate pits Charli Turner Thorne’s Lady Devils against Cleveland State in a preseason WNIT match-up.

The chicks go at 6 p.m. The dudes tip at 8.
