After covering Phoenix nightlife and entertainment for almost 10 years, 944 Magazine announced it will be closing shop after the run of its June issue.
944 Media was founded Tempe in 2001. The creator later sold his interest in the company, but the magazine continued and expanded to include editions in Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Orange County, Phoenix, San Diego, and San Francisco.
The magazine’s future looked grim in 2010, when the 944 Media declared Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, but business was (briefly) looking up after it was purchased by Sandow Media, publisher of Watch Journal, Luxe, and New Beauty in January 2011.
Executive Editor, D.B. Mitchell announced the magazine’s closure on Twitter: “The last 944 just arrived. #bittersweet.”
