Number 7: Vampiro at America’s Taco Shop

Despite pop culture’s fascination with the undead, this has nothing to do with Halloween, the Twilight series, or HBO’s True Blood.

Nope, the Vampiro at America’s Taco Shop is simply a bewitchingly delicious snack that’s a welcome twist on a traditional taco. It’s worth a visit to this charming neighborhood favorite (which has recently expanded to three locations) just to try this unique dish.

The restaurant’s acclaimed carne asada, in all of its juicy, beefy glory, is heaped on a grilled tortilla with an assortment of gooey, decadent toppings — melted Monterey Jack cheese, guacamole, and sweet caramelized onions, plus a flurry of shredded lettuce.

On days when you can catch a whiff of the mouthwatering grilled beef aroma wafting from the kitchen and not crave carne asada, this is also a very efficient delivery method for transporting America’s pastor or beans directly to your mouth.
