Peppermint and eggnog may be the poster flavors of the season, but at Born & Glazed in Scottsdale, December means three new flavors of doughnuts that promise not to add to the onslaught of gingerbread and hot chocolate-infused products.

Starting today, the doughnut and coffeeshop will offer cherry almond, matcha mint chip, and blood orange creamsicle doughnuts — and they’re all vegan.

In fact, moving forward, almost all of Born & Glazed’s doughnut will be vegan. Recently, the shop switched to a vegan yeast doughnut batter, meaning pretty much everything on the menu features no animal products, except, of course, the shop’s maple bacon doughnut. We tried a few of the new vegan doughnuts, and while you may notice the doughnuts are less greasy than a traditional version, the egg-, butter-, and milk-free batter still is surprisingly light. Our favorite on the menu might just be the shop’s signature salted caramel doughnut, which balances sweet and salty flavors perfectly and gets a nice textural boost from the dough’s thin crust.

Born & Glazed, which is owned by Nicholas Campisano and Joshua James (also of The Clever Koi), opened earlier this year in South Scottsdale. The shop is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
