Your morning just got a little more bearable, thanks to Cartel Coffee Lab in downtown Phoenix. While the cafe used to offer a full breakfast menu, Cartel ditched that concept a couple of months ago and focused on expanding its pastry program. Boy, are we happy it did because it’s been churning out spongy lemon lavender loaf, savory scones, gigantic cinnamon rolls, and, our favorite, the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant for $3.50.

The croissant’s cheese can change from day to day, from a sharp and tangy cheddar to a creamy, smooth goat cheese, but the pastry creation always has fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy, fatty bacon. The savory treat is all the best parts of breakfast in one compact, handheld package.
Best of all, if you get there in the morning, right as the croissants come out of the oven, the buttery, flaky croissant is still warm, a comforting sign that everything might just be okay the rest of the day. If that doesn’t put a smile on your face in the morning, nothing will.
