Don’t worry, Canal still has its 30 Dollar Sandwich, comically priced at 29.99. The SouthBridge restaurant continues to dish up crispy parmesan fries, and you dirty-minded people can still have ahi three ways, too.

But there are plenty of new dishes to check out on executive chef Justin Beckett’s new dinner menu, including duck confit salad with yellow peppers, spinach, candied walnuts, and pomegranate sherry vinaigrette; dry-rubbed New York steak with cauliflower and celery root gratin, swiss chard, and mushroom demi; and pan-seared sea scallops with spiced carrot risotto, green apple, fennel salad, and port wine sauce. On a related note, Canal and its sister restaurants, Estate House and Metro Brasserie, are encouraging us to start day-drinking as a solution to our country’s economic malaise — or at least that’s how I interpret the premium liquor deal they’re offering all day, every day, through Inauguration Day. Five bucks for several kinds of their top-shelf booze, including Tanqueray and 10 Cane Rum. Now I know where to drown my sorrows. — Michele Laudig
