The luscious lunch buffet at Zam Zam World Foods‘ in-house cafe is no more — although it might eventually make a comeback, says a kitchen employee.
In the meantime, there’s still plenty of tasty Pakistani and Indian food that won’t break the bank. Walk past aisles of rice, oil, canned vegetables, and countless kinds of curry paste, and see what’s on the board at the back counter. There’s a small seating area if you don’t get takeout.
For $7.50, I got a generous dish of chicken tikka masala that made me wish I’d brought a friend to share it with. Between that and the big plate of rice that came with it, it was a really filling lunch, packed with moist chicken chunks. The sauce alone was so flavorful I kept slurping it up with a spoon.
Samosas, kabobs, biryani, and other fragrant treats are also on the menu. On weekends, they offer aloo paratha (potato-stuffed flatbread) and fresh naan.
Zam Zam is located on 40th Street, just north of McDowell (1638 N. 40th St.). Call 602-220-9205 for more info.
