Chef and restaurateur Matt Pool’s been a busy man lately.

Last week, the chef-owner of Matt’s Big Breakfast, the popular breakfast and lunch spot in Central Phoenix, opened the restaurant’s new and bigger location a few doors north of the original, which he says he plans on eventually turning into a takeout-only business.

And now, news that The Roosevelt Tavern, Pool’s cool, unassuming pub in downtown Phoenix, won’t be re-opening after its annual summer break.

Opened in 2007, The Roosevelt Tavern, in a historic home located in the heart of the downtown Phoenix arts district, was popular as a respite from First Friday chaos and featured craft and specialty brews, wine, and a small menu of Pool’s quirky take on bar snacks and small plates.

The Republic reports that Pool’s wife, Erenia, says the couple’s closing The Roosevelt to spend more time with family and to focus on several upcoming business ventures, but plan on re-opening the space as a new concept by the end of this year.

The Republic adds that the couple also expects to expand their coffee shop, Giant Coffee, on First Street and McDowell Road in Phoenix, in addition to working on their Phoenix Sky Harbor location of Matt’s Big Breakfast, in Terminal 4, which is scheduled to open early next year.
