Santa arrived early for Roger Carpenter and Phil Roberts, owners of DownUnder Wines & Bistro.
Just before the holiday, they opened their new, expanded restaurant in Gilbert (1422 W. Warner, at McQueen).
Just like at their previous location in Chandler, they’re still serving distinctive Aussie eats to go along with wines from around the world. There’s live music on Saturday nights, as well as a weeknight happy hour (5 to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday) that featured bargain munchies and $4 glasses of wine.
