Have you noticed all of the food-related charity events that have been cruising into town lately? Sugar and Champagne: The SAVORlife Soiree, Forks and Corks, Dining Out For Life… we could go on and on. Well, add one more to that list: the upcoming Bake For Hope from May 2-8.
The bake sale, now in its second year, is a grassroots effort to raise money for local Susan G. Komen foundations. The inaugural event brought in nearly $30,000 and featured 70 bake sales across the nation. That’s pretty huge considering it’s all volunteer and there are no corporate sponsors. So where can you find a bake sale in Phoenix?
Note: They use the term “bake” very loosely. Sure, you can find frosted cupcakes for sale at Gainey Village Health Club & Spa and the East Mesa campus of A.T. Still University. But many of the participants are restaurants that have elected to donate a portion of their proceeds to Susan G. Komen affiliates. Buy a pink cloud cookie from Chocolate Star Bakery or a special pink shake from Udder Delights in Gilbert, or head to Orange Tree Yogurt‘s Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. location in Scottsdale and they’ll donate 20%. Not that you really need an excuse to visit Sweet Republic or buy Yogurtology‘s oatmeal cookie yogurt (which is the smack of fro-yo, it’s so addictive!), but you can feel better knowing that the pounds you packed on were for a really good cause. Or, you can buy a virtual cupcake for $1 on the Bake For Hope website.
