Mention Girl Scout cookies, and I can’t help but think back to the days of knocking on every door in my neighborhood, order sheet in hand, and hitting up every relative at my grandma’s house before Sunday dinner.
These days, who needs to pound the pavement? Girl Scouts are so high-tech that they can email their friends and family, and place orders through a new password-protected web program called Cookie Club. It’s a pilot program that the Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council is introducing for this year’s cookie sales, which start January 15.
Meanwhile, the selection for 2011 has been streamlined compared to years past. There are only half a dozen options — “the Super Six” — which the Girl Scouts have identified as the top-selling, most loved favorites for this region.
The rundown includes Thin Mints (of course), Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, and Lemon Chalet Crèmes. If you’re a fan of last year’s Dulce de Leche or Thank You Berry Munch, you’re out of luck.

Things may have changed, but the cookies still have the same allure. And indeed, there are plenty of kids who still collect orders the old-fashioned way — pretty smart, considering how hard it is to turn down a cute fourth-grader!
