We talked with Geoffrey Wilson of Barrelhouse in Chandler, who taught us how to make some great classic New Orleans cocktails. Our resident bartender, JK Grence, also mixed up a Mardi Gras staple, the hurricane, and shared his recipe. If you don’t feel like going the D.I.Y. route with your imbibing, you can also head over to Mill Avenue tomorrow for the Fat Tuesday and El Hefe Mardi Gras party.
For something sweet, you can try out pastry chef Rachel Miller’s recipe for King Cake, or you can pick one up at three different Valley locations. If you’re just looking for some good, old fashioned Cajun and Creole cuisine, Baby Kay’s recently re-opened in Mesa and Welcome Diner re-vamped their menu with a brand new cocktail list and a delicious fried green tomato sandwich.
