Six months ago, fans of German food and drink had to cry into their beers when Black Forest Mill closed its doors after developing a raucous reputation for late-night dance parties. While the deejays have since moved on to other venues, the restaurant (4900 E. Indian School, 602-957-0152) is ready for a comeback with a new name and new operators.
As of today, Black Forest Haus is in business for lunch and dinner, helmed by chef Klaus Baechle and his wife Nancy, formerly of Flagstaff’s Matterhorn Grill.
Nancy Baechle tells me the menu is about 90 percent German cuisine — including sausages, six different schnitzels, sauerbraten, apple strudel, and more. A menu of bar snacks to go along with German wines and five beers on tap (more by the bottle) starts at 4 p.m.
Weekday lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while dinner, 5 to 10 p.m., is available Tuesday through Saturday. Soon, they’ll also begin Sunday brunch service, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
