In a move that we’re hoping will continue with hilarious consequences, Polish cooks in Krakow have assembled the world’s largest lasagna to celebrate hosting Italy’s soccer team for the Euro Cup 2012 championship. According to Reuters, the lasagna took 10 hours to cook — hooray for food safety — and weighed in at 5.29 tons and ended up being split in 10,000 pieces.
It’s unclear at this time whether the Italian team actually ate any of the lasagna since it apparently is under a strict pre-game diet.
Italy is set to face off against England at a stadium in the Ukrainian capital Kiev this Sunday. We can only hope that England’s host city is planning on sending them off with the world’s largest fish and chips or perhaps a delicious lamprey cake.
