Hang on to your cake shakes, Portillo’s fans. In just a couple of months, the Illinois restaurant chain beloved by Chicago transplants throughout the Valley will be bringing its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef, hamburgers, and sandwiches to Arizona — specifically Scottsdale.

Located throughout the Chicago metropolitan area (including one location in Indiana and two in southern California), Portillo’s plans to open its first Arizona restaurant at the southwest corner of 90th Street and Shea Boulevard in late February. And more Arizona Portillo’s are on the way for 2013.
According to Dick Portillo, president and founder of The Portillo Restaurant Group, the restaurant chain will continue its Arizona expansion with a second location this summer in Tempe (at Tempe Marketplace).

“We are very excited about our Scottsdale opening,” says Portillo. “Once the word got out that we were coming to Arizona, the response was overwhelming. We look forward to having a positive impact on the local economy with our operations in both Scottsdale and Tempe.”
A Chow Bella post I wrote in February mentioned another possible Portillo’s in the Chandler Fashion Center, but that location has not been confirmed.
Portillo’s will began hiring for its Scottsdale location on Thursday, January 3. Applicants can apply in person at the hiring center located at 9160 East Shea Boulevard or pick up and drop off a completed application in the mailbox located at the Portillo’s restaurant site.
