From Fatburger to In-N-Out Burger, there’s no shortage of burger joints in Tempe, but with thousands of ASU students to munch on them, what’s one more?
This fall, Denver-based burger chain Smashburger is hoping to take a bite out of that business with the opening of its first Arizona location, at 777 S. College Ave. in Tempe.
The new spot will be Smashburger’s 25th location — and this is just the beginning. As part of the company’s aggressive national expansion plan, Smashburger’s Maricopa County franchisee SunWest Restaurant will be opening 30 new stores over the next seven years, according to SunWest CEO/owner David Doty.
So what will set Smashburger apart from the pack? As the restaurant name suggests, it’s all about the cooking method: smashing a ball o’ meat to sear in the juices.
