It’s no secret that we adore Sweet Republic’s artisan ice cream. Their delicious desserts were picked up by Whole Foods. The shop made it onto Bon Appetit‘s list of the 10 Best Ice Creams in the nation. And now owners Helen Yung and Jan Wichayanuparp are headed to the big leagues.
Sweet Republic will be featured on an upcoming episode of TLC’s new program American Eats (formerly on The History Channel) highlighting food trucks from across the nation. TLC initially approached Yung about the show several months ago, and called the duo yesterday morning to confirm.
“They’re not asking us to do anything out of the ordinary; just to keep doing what we do,” Yung tells New Times. TLC tentatively plans to film Sweet Republic’s vintage ice cream wagon in action at Scottsdale’s Old Town Farmers’ Market the weekend of January 9. The crew will also film the ice cream making process at Sweet Republic’s Scottsdale shop. Are Helen and Jan nervous about their national TV debut? “Not really,” says Yung. “We’ve been on local TV before. It’s good practice for this!”
