Happy National Burger Chicken Month? Thanks to high beef prices, my new favorite holiday is looking as sad as the Hamburglar after a bust. Seems burger chains everywhere are giving the heave-ho to hamburger hurrah in lieu of fare that’s fowl. Carl’s Jr., just came out with a Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich (a take on its teriyaki-style burger I wrote about in April), Fuddruckers added Fudds Exotics to their menu, anything-but-beef half-pound burgers of bison, elk, and wild boar in addition to a seven-ounce ostrich and five-ounce salmon burger, and Wendy’s began touting its new Spicy Chipotle Boneless Wings, the newest flavor for the chicken chow line it introduced last year.
Chicken during National Burger Month? What’s a Fry Girl to do but go with the burger-less flow? I bit into Wendy’s new Spicy Chipotle Boneless Wings and compared them against the existing Honey BBQ and Sweet and Spicy Asian varieties.
Spicy and far less sugary than its Sweet and Spicy Asian and Honey BBQ boneless brethren (10 grams of the sweet stuff compared to 27 and 34), Wendy’s eight-piece Spicy Chipotle Wings boasted a successful heat-and-meat combination that for $3.99 was filling and didn’t taste like an offering to a B-movie ant queen.
