Hope those thinking caps aren’t too snug: Phoenix New Times‘ Big Brain Awards are back.
The annual awards designed to recognize innovative artists in the fields of design, visual art, fashion, performing art, and culinary art, and give each $500 for their creative endeavors.
In the past, nominees and winners have included musically minded folks like Robbie Pfeffer (who wrote and drew our Noise Complaint comic in the past and runs the Tempe Starving Artist zine), hip-hop-inspired artist Joseph “Sentrock” Perez, and Francis Lazaro, who documents the city’s EDM scene with his visually arresting videos.
All nominees will be profiled on Jackalope Ranch, Chow Bella, and here on Up on the Sun, as well as the print issue of New Times.
When news happens, Phoenix New Times is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
Winners will be announced Saturday, April 7 at Artopia, an evening of art, food, fashion, drinks, and music. (More info on that later).
Deadline for submissions is Monday, March 5. Make your nominations here (and yeah, you can even nominate yourself).
