Bono has gone back to aiding Africa again. Well, sort of. According to NME, Bono has partnered with Louis Vuitton to produce an African-inspired clothing line.
He’s connecting the project to his clothing line, Edun. “We are excited to draw attention to the new mood in Africa, which is positive and optimistic,” Bono said at the African Rising Art Exhibition.
Pardon me, Bono, but I’m pretty sure that shoppers purchase items from Louis Vuitton for the brand name, not because your name is associated with the item. I don’t think anyone would buy Coach wristlets or anything of the like more frequently just because it would help Africa either. A better approach would be a more down-to-earth African aid campaign like the one that smalltown band Keeping Riley does with the Of Rags Foundation, an organization that’s all about sustainable fashion and benefiting Africa: they’ve got cool streetwear that’s much more affordable and appealing to the average Joe. And I’m sure as hell certain that Of Rags likely donates a larger percentage of the profits to help Africa than Bono will. So much for the Louis Vuitton campaign.
