Legendary Phoenix broadcaster Dave Pratt — the “Morning Mayor” of Phoenix who built KUPD into a powerhouse in the 80s before working at a string of other big FM stations — says his return to radio is imminent.

Pratt was bounced off the airwaves at KMLE, one of the Valley’s twin titans of country radio, back in December 2008 as the station sought to save cash. At the time, there were two years left on his contract, meaning he got paid to sit on the sidelines so long as he didn’t sign with a competitor.

Now Pratt, who has been cooling his heels writing a blog on azcentral and promoting his book in the meantime, sent out an e-mail dispatch saying, “our morning show is set to return.”

“All along, my promise was that I would never leave you, and I would never leave Arizona,” the e-mail said. “I also promised that our morning show would return at the conclusion of my CBS contract, which has finally ended. Well, a “Mayor” has to keep his promises right”
