Remember matryoshkas? You know, the Russian dolls where every time you take them apart, there is another doll underneath, until all that’s left is a tiny little Russian doll baby inside. What was once an addicting thing play with as a kid is now the poster child (get it?) for a rock show this Friday, August 13 at The Nile Theatre in Mesa.
Designer Trevor Lucius’ inspiration goes beyond simply thinking the dolls look cool.
“I wanted to create something bright and summery-looking,” Lucius says. “I hope it catches people’s attention at least for a second. It’s bright and vibrant and fun. I hope it reflects on the tone of the show.”
You can bet there’ll be a ton of kids invading The Nile, as a slew of local bands plays the space for an eclectic all-ages concert. While there will be plenty of punk music, courtesy of Industry Turned Shark and Go Great Guns!, emo girls who love bands such as The Cab are sure to go crazy for Crash Coordinates, a pretty boy band known for its pop rock sensibilities. The guys recently went into the studio to record new music, which you can hear when they play with other locals The City Speaks and Some Never Sleep.
