Say what you will about Lady Gaga, but the pop priestess is notorious for more than just her over-the-top outfits and large scale productions. Gaga makes a point to do charity work on a very regular basis. In addition to her team-up with Cyndi Lauper to benefit the MAC AIDS Foundation, she also mentions Virgin Mobile on stage every night on her current tour. In exchange, the company donates $20,000 each time to a non-profit that assists homeless LGBT youth.
It may come as no surprise that the fundamentalist fanatics at the Westboro Baptist Church have a problem with this. The same people that protested the funeral of Matthew Shepherd, who was murdered in a hate crime because of his orientation, called for a protest of Gaga at her St. Louis concert, according to Rolling Stone.
The group reportedly called her a ‘false prophetess’ and claims that Gaga and “gender-confused, self loathing, tone deaf” fans are on their way hell. Rolling Stone also reported, “The group has issued a parody of Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ called ‘Ever Burn,’ which features the lyrics ‘Go devil spawn, you just keep pushin’ on to the hell where you will forever burn.'” Gaga responded well, with Twitter messages encouraging her fans not to have a confrontation, and assuring them that love would prevail over hate. Talk about grace under pressue.
