When local blues outfit Sistah Blue took second place at the International Blues Talent Competition in 1996, the band was just a year old. Over the past nine years, it’s built up a fan base by playing all over the Valley, opening for such acts as John Lee Hooker and John Mayall, and releasing two albums. When vocalist Lila Sherman left the band, she was replaced by Dejah, who, along with drummer Janet Daniel, joined the band this year. The two new additions fit perfectly, judging by the band’s victory at the Arizona Blues Showdown in November. So the ladies are once again headed to Memphis to represent Arizona at the International Blues Showdown in February 2005. And since sending five people to Memphis for three days can be expensive, Sistah Blue will play a fund-raising show with some special guests, including Ronnie Whitehead and George Bowman. Make us proud, sistahs!
