When I interviewed Stephen Steinbrink and Christian Filardo for this a column in this week’s paper about Kickstarter, I had no idea that they had teamed up for Condensed Nothing, a new cassette from Steinbrink issued on Filardo’s Holy Page Records label.
Drawing on recordings made between December 5-23, the cassette represents the three recording from Steinbrink in just under a year, following Rennett, and Desert Wasn’t Welcome, which is to say, the guy records an awful lot.
If you’re a follower of Steinbrink’s music, you know what to expect — flowing, oddly tuned electric guitars, funky accompaniment, and Steinbrink’s singular voice. You can listen to the song beyond the jump.

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
Condensed Nothing finds Steinbrink in a distinctly pop-focused mode (pretty much a given when Culture Club is mentioned in promo materials), with plenty of piano to help give the proceedings a kind of stately, lonesome feel.
The record comes just as Steinbrink heads out a short tour with Key Losers.
