New bar Tempe Tavern is set to open in a few weeks in the historic White Dairy Barn building, formerly the home off Murphy’s Pub, on the Northeast corner of Apache and McClintock.

According to the city of Tempe’s historical properties website, the building is the only known river cobble building left in Tempe, and “major original design features, such as the parapet, exposed concrete columns, door framing, and cobble surfaces, have been preserved.”

Manager Rob Tasso is going for an “old school tavern kind of feel,” describing the bar as “Casey Moorish.”  He plans to host live music on the weekends and offer a full menu. The location, right off the light rail and across from the Grigio Metro apartment complex, should work well for the club provided the local economy starts to show some signs of life.

The exact opening date is not yet certain, but Tasso promises things should be up and running within “a few weeks.”
