After a two-year break, The Mars Volta has wrapped up their sixth studio album, the follow-up to 2009’s Octahedron. Yet-to-be-titled, the album is slated for release in 2012. But don’t worry, we wouldn’t leave you hanging out there without a little taste.
Songs from the album recently hit You Tube, featuring the band in Europe. And apparently, singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala isn’t opting for mystery, either. Well…no more than Mars Volta tunes usually do, anyway.
It looks like the El Paso-based band — known for their 30-minute songs, organ grinds, Spanish influences, and Zeppelinesque rants — is shying away from their standards with this. According to front-man Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s YouTube channel, the upcoming album is “future punk. That’s the only way to describe it.”
