Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill
In perhaps the weirdest artist/venue pairing ever, Australian indie band The Tempe Trap played Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill in Mesa last night. “I’ve never seen so much plaid,” someone in the crowd said, and she was right: the country Western bar, complete with a mechanical bull, was full of hipsters, who were also there to check out Black Carl and What Laura Says.
The highlight of the night was definitely The Temper Trap’s rendition of “Sweet Disposition,” which had the crowd going crazy. It was sort of odd to hear people cheer in the middle of What Laura Says’ set, though, not because of the music but because the Texans tied the Ravens in a football game (sports televisions were throughout the venue.)
The Temper Trap promised the crowd they’d be back to Arizona after the release of their next album, but for now you can check out some video from the show after the jump.
