It’s tough to believe that locals Jimmy Eat World released what was perhaps their biggest hit, “Sweetness,” nearly a decade ago.
But sure enough, Tokyo Police Club is here to remind us of just how much we’ve aged. As part of their “10 days, 10 covers, 10 years” project, the Ontario indie band enlisted the help of Passion Pit lead singer Michael Angelakos to cover the 2002 hit, the second song in the series.
Really, they didn’t change much. Lead singer David Monks’ voice comes off a little more pop-punk than probably intended, but an electro-infused break — likely the work of Angelakos — about 3/4 of the way in adds a spark of originality.
For the next seven days, the band will return to the studio to record the next in the lineup of covers. Fans can watch the recording process live via webcam starting at 7 p.m. MST. each day.
