If you had tickets to Tony Bennett’s December 14 concert in Phoenix, it’s time to make other plans.
The legendary crooner announced his immediate retirement yesterday, which means that a short tour that was planned for September through December is now off.
NBC News reports that his son, Danny Bennett, said that the development is health-related: “There won’t be any additional concerts. This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is, however, doctors’ orders. His continued health is the most important part of this.” He went on to say that the traveling part of performing was the issue, not the singing.
Bennett just performed last week at two sold-out concerts at Radio City Music Hall in New York City; one of the shows was in honor of his 95th birthday. In 2020, his family revealed that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016.
