New Times singled Radio Phoenix out in our annual Best Of Phoenix issue as the “Best Online Music Station That Should Be a Radio Station.”
Actually, in addition to being too-indie-for-the-airwaves the station spins a few things that aren’t even topping the charts at the Valley’s record stores. Check out their airplay chart on the jump.
Here’s what Radio Phoenix’s national music director Monk has to say about the station’s current rotation:
“Stroke: [Songs for Chris Knox] has gotten a lot of attention from us with stellar tracks by artists like Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel,) Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and Jay Reatard, among others. Massive Attack’s new album Heliogland has been played on nearly every new music specialty show, plus getting a lot of play in regular rotation. Spoon, with its freaky stuttering style is still a great, if awkward, listen. Eels is probably at its height for this go-around, and while I wasn’t crazy about it at first, I have to admit [Vampire Weekend’s] Contra is actually starting to grow on me.”
