So we Phoenix media types have been summoned to the U.S. Airways Center Thursday for “a major 2009 concert announcement” at 11:30 a.m. And oh what a press conference it will be, with free lunch and entertainment by The Big Bang as well as the Phoenix Suns dance team and their Gorilla mascot.
This morning, our contact over at Live Nation, the always-charming Sarita Ray, even dropped off a box with two chocolate pianos (white and milk) and a paper flier.
I’m not sure if I’m excited or frightened. Lest you believe our lives are always so glamorous, while there was a time with this sort of fanfare was common, nowadays concert announcements always come by e-mail.
So, anyone have a guess what’s coming? I mean, this must be a pretty huge announcement to warrant chocolates. I would guess a reunited Pink Floyd, but the piano motif suggests Billy Joel or Elton John. Still, I’m not sure either is big enough for this treatment. Guns N’ Roses? Axl uses a piano, that could be it. Given the Suns connection, Shaq Fu On Ice is also a possibility. Hmmmm.
