A 16-year-old Mesa girl tossed her newborn baby out of a window in an attempt to hide her pregnancy from her family, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl, whose name hasn’t been released, has been charged with attempted murder and child abuse, as the newborn suffered a skull fracture upon being tossed out of the window, an MCSO spokesman says.
MCSO got involved after someone called paramedics for the 16-year-old girl, who was “bleeding profusely.”
Deputies then spent the next half-hour searching for the newborn, which was found in a shed at the teen’s parents’ home.

Turns out, deputies believe the girl gave birth in the bathroom, then tossed the baby out of the window, into the shed. The baby fell about five feet, and landed on brick.
The newborn was hospitalized with the life-threatening injuries, but MCSO Lieutenant Brandon Jones says the baby is expected to survive.
The child will remain in Child Protective Services’ custody, Jones says.
The Sheriff’s Office believes this whole thing was a plot for the 16-year-old girl to conceal her pregnancy from her parents.
