A Valley motorist is in critical condition at an area hospital after an argument at a traffic light got ugly and another driver shot him in the head.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the victim, his girlfriend, and the couple’s two children were driving near 83rd Avenue and Thomas Road early Sunday morning.
The victim, driving a pickup truck, was stopped at a traffic light when an argument broke out between him and another driver also stopped at the light.
The argument continued as the two cars drove east on Interstate 10.

Then shit got real.
The victim’s girlfriend reported hearing a popping sound. When she looked over at her boyfriend, he’d been shot in the back of the head.
The girlfriend was able to reach over her wounded boyfriend and bring the truck to a stop. Neither the girlfriend nor the children were hurt in the incident.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. It’s unclear whether he’ll survive.
The suspect vehicle is described as a black, two-door sports car, possibly a newer model Chevrolet Cavalier, and may have custom rims.
