Former Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder is on the disabled list after surgery last week to repair a herniated disc in his back — which might be why he did nothing to defend his wife from a shoe-throwing maniac during a road-rage incident yesterday afternoon.
Snyder, now with the Pittsburgh Pirates, his wife, and two small children were traveling in their vehicle near a gas station outside of Pittsburgh, when Carla Snyder nearly hit a man on a motor-scooter.
The man on the scooter, Subhash Modhwadia, 44, of Scott, Pennsylvania, followed the family into a gas-station parking lot and flew into a rage, blocking the Snyder’s SUV from leaving and kicking the car. According to authorities, he ripped the driver’s side mirror off of the SUV.
A good samaritan, 22-year-old Joe Changle, noticed what was going on and attempted to intervene.

“He was screaming,” Changle tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review . “I couldn’t understand anything he was saying. He was speaking in a [foreign] language.”
Changle tackled Modhwadia, prompting the enraged scooter-ist to bite Changle’s forearm.
Off-duty police officer Arthur Baker also tried to step in. Modhwadia threw a tennis shoe at him, before being wrestled to the ground.
Meanwhile, Chris Snyder — and his sore back — remained seated in the car.
Modhwadia was booked on one count each of aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and driving without a valid drivers license. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 bond.
