A man serving a life sentence for sex crimes was found dead of an apparent suicide at the Arizona State Prison Complex at Florence on Saturday.
The inmate has been identified as 47-year-old Monte McCarty. Police say McCarty was pronounced dead shortly before noon on Saturday, but declined to provide further details, citing a continuing investigation into his death.
McCarty was inmate #088624, and information from the Arizona Department of Corrections database shows that he was convicted on 18 counts of various crimes, including multiple counts of child molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor. McCarty was sentenced to life in prison and admitted into the Florence complex on June 3, 2008.
It wasn’t the first time McCarty had been in trouble with the law; records show he was first paroled in December 1991. He was also found guilty of two disciplinary infractions (one in January of this year, the other in June) for disobeying orders during his most recent — and final — stint in prison.
