The Arizona Republic, desperate for something to squeeze between the ads as more reporters get laid off, started running a new, syndicated column today by greener-than-thou marketer Danny Seo.
Seo’s like a cross between Heloise, Martha Stewart and Al Gore — he wants to save Earth by small acts of greenificence, such as using VCR tape for ribbons around presents. Embarrassingly, even for the Republic, a locally written puff piece accompanies Seo’s introductory column that explains how Seo got his start at age 12 when he realized Earth Day fell on his birthday.
His grand plans to protect the environment have somehow been transmuted into grand plans to sell diesel-truckloads of cleaners and beauty supplies. But in the meantime, he’s got hundreds of tips on how you can avoid a big environmental footprint by doing “just one thing.”

For instance, did you know that washing your bedding less uses less water and energy? Friggin’ astonishing, isn’t it? Parents, did you know you can re-use old clothes by letting your kids play with them? That’s right, you don’t have to buy a new princess outfit from the Disney store every week!
At first, we were mystified by some of Seo’s tips in today’s column — what does aromatherapy have to do with a greener lifestyle?
The answer, we quickly realized, was obvious: He sells aromatherapy products, like this “body mist and room spray.”
Since his products, like Seo himself, are green to the nth degree, buying his products and saving Earth are now one and the same.
