The Dean Peak Fire that’s burning near Kingman is “wind[ing] down,” according to firefighting authorities.
The 5,400-acre, lightning-caused fire, which has been burning just 10 miles southeast of Kingman, is now 90 percent contained.
Engines, helicopters, and hotshot crews were released, now more than a week after the fire started in the Hualapai Mountains.
There were roughly 500 firefighters battling the blaze at one point and evacuations were ordered, but there are fewer than 300 firefighters there now, and the evacuations have been lifted.

More than 100 miles southeast of that fire, the Yarnell Hill Fire also is 90 percent contained, and evacuations have been lifted, but the damage obviously is much greater.
That blaze killed 19 firefighters and wiped out houses in the area.
Both fires are expected to be completely contained within the next week.
