Anyone looking to adopt their very own geratric this holiday season, look no further.
The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a program called “Adopt a Senior,” where residents take it upon themselves to make sure a senior citizen has a nice holiday season.
As if our own senile grandparents weren’t enough of a chore.
When news happens, Phoenix New Times is there —
Your support strengthens our coverage.
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
The GCC has already adopted 40 of its own oldies, but don’t worry, there are plenty to go around.
Here’s how it works: The seniors make a wish list and submit it to the Gilbert Senior Center. The center then gives the list to the person who adopts a fossil, and they are responsible for making the list a reality.
The items on the list usually run about $25 and can include anything from gifts to just spending some time with the senior.
For anyone who looks at spending time with someone who’s knocking on death’s door as depressing, or just doesn’t have time but still wants to make a donation, he or she can bring monetary donations to the senior center and it will fulfill the wishlist for them.
