A Gilbert man faces felony weapons charges after he tried to pop a cap in his dog Sunday afternoon, after the animal bit his daughter in the face.

About 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, the man’s 11-year-old daughter was in the backyard of the family’s home in the 2500 block of East Via De Palmas in Gilbert.
The girl was playing with the family’s German Sheppard, when the dog bit her in the face.

The girl’s father, Kevin Townsend, 49, responded the way any (ahem) good, gun-toting Arizonan should.
According to police, Townsend fired “multiple shots” at the dog but didn’t manage to hit the animal. He was able to take out a neighbor’s window with a stray bullet, though, so here’s to responsible gun owners (right Russell Pearce?).
The girl was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the dog was given to a friend.
Townsend, on the other hand, has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm within town limits, a class 6 felony.
