Independent voters now outnumber Republicans in Arizona.
According to voter registration statistics released today, more than 10,000 people have registered as independents since January. The total number of Arizona independents is 1,134,243, surpassing the 1,130,170 Republicans.

The number of independents surpassing the number of Republicans isn’t particularly good news for Democrats, either.
Though there are now about 1,100 fewer Republicans now than there were in January, there are more than 2,100 fewer Arizona Democrats.
In a statement, Secretary of State Ken Bennett points out that despite the fact that Arizona has an open primary system, independents don’t participate in primaries at a high rate.
